Uganda, will take part in the UN Food Systems Global Summit on 23rd September, 2021
convened by Secretary-General António Guterres.

Taking lead in Uganda, Office of the Prime Minister is the Convener of the Food Systems
Summit while the National Planning Authority (NPA) and Ministry of Agriculture, Animal
Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) are co-conveners. Hon. Frank Tumwebaze, Minister for
Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries will lead the Ugandan delegation of which all
Ugandans can be part of if they register.

The virtual event is a people’s summit that will be held as a side event of the UN General

The Summit comes at a time when we need more innovation in how food is produced, managed
and consumed. This will lead to transformation of the food systems for better nutrition and health
outcomes. We cannot talk about National Development without considering food as a key
ingredient to the development Process.

In that regard, different regional dialogues which led to a national event that was graced by His
Excellency, President Yoweri Kaguta, were held. Through stakeholder engagement, the Uganda
Food Systems Secretariat has developed different papers including one on the country position,
another on Uganda’s pathway and one on the country commitment paper. The documents are
available on the UN website.

At the Global Food Systems Summit, Uganda will have an opportunity to learn what other
countries are doing or what they plan to do. Delegates will also have a chance to tap into
Uganda’s Knowledge and best practices.

Since Kampala is seven/eight hours ahead of New York, the event in Kampala will start from
3pm and continue through the night
